BAUCHIS GOV SENIOR SPECIAL ASSISTANT ON UNMARRIED WOMEN AFFAIRS, A VERY BIG JOKE.

Once again, one of the Nigerias political elites has done hilarious; something embarrassing. Bauchi States Governor, Bala Mohammed has appointed a Special Assistant on Unmarried Women! Theoretically speaking, it sounds good- the governor is concerned about the welfare and wellbeing of unmarried women in his state. A very good and caring leader. Unfortunately, it shows that the governor and those advising him lack foresight, deductive reasoning and understanding of what the Bauchi indigenes thoroughly lack.

Before I began writing this post, I decided to do some researches and see why the state governor issued the appointment. I decided to find out how many men and women (male and female) that we have in Nigeria. As at today (7-8-2020), there are two hundred and eight million, three hundred and ninety-six thousand, eight hundred and twenty two (208, 396, 822) people in Nigeria. 105, 527, 483 are male. Which means that male in Nigeria is actually more than the females contrary to the erroneous believe that men are scarce. So the Bauchi state governor should have appointed a Special Assistant on Unmarried MEN affair and not the other way round! Besides, some religions support polygamy (A man marrying two or more wives) which means that more men are likely to end not getting married than women.

The most important question here is that is this the most important thing right now in Bauchi? Has the governor who is so concerned about womens marital status enacted policies that would make life easy for these women when they get married? What about the unmarried men in the state? What step is the governor taking to make life easier for them? Of course these questions would be left unanswered.

The governor is not the first among our governors that would do something like this. A couple of years back, Kano State Governor, Ganduje conducted a mass wedding for three thousand (3,000) people, in May 2019, can you imagine?! At the time, the troubling question on my mind was that are these people capable of starting their families, if yes, why were they waiting for the state government to do it for them? If they were too (financially) broke to organize their own weddings, how would they be able to support their families when they start giving birth to children? There was a similar (ridiculous) political appointment from the former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha. The eccentric ex-governor had appointed a commissioner of Happiness and enjoyment, his own sister!

If the governor of Bauch State is truly and genuinely concentered about the plight of the unmarried women in his state, he could have let the Ministry of Women Affairs in the state handle the issue instead of duplication of offices and functions, but of course, our political class is not known for deep thinking.

Finally, the motive for the appointment is questionable. The appointment letter says I am pleased to convey the approval of His excellency, Senator Bala Mohammed CON, the Executive Governor of Bauchi state, for your appointment as Special Assistant Woman Affairs (Unmarried). The appointment is based on your knowledge, experience and personal qualities of HANDWORK, honesty and absolute loyalty. I would expect you to utilize all these qualities in facing the challenges of your office .”. to start with, the grammatical misappropriations in the letter are unforgivable. For such an important letter, one would expect an error-free content but that is not the case in this but thats not even important now. Whats very evident and disturbing about the letter is the fact that the letter stressed the fact that the recipient (Balaraba Ibrahim) had been appointed because of his ABSOLUTE LOYALTY rather than his competence or capabilities. Isnt this an indication that the appointment is a move to repay some political debt or favour? Hmm. This is another appointee that would earn millions from the people of Bauchis meager allocation before the expiration of the governors tenure. God save us.
