Solutions To The Nigerian Higher Education Problems.
Most Nigerian public higher institutions are uselessly lazy, badly-run and very unproductive. The lack of empathy, professionalism and swift response in addressing student-related issues in these institutions are disheartening. That's why there's no public higher institution in Nigeria today that can exist on its own without the govt's full funding. Meanwhile, you see the way foreign higher institutions work, those schools will follow you back to back the moment you start your application with them.
They will guide you through the process. Respond to your emails/calls promptly. Offer professional advices and share opportunities with you that will ease the financial and psychological burden on you because they know that they need you, as an institution, to stay in business.
But Nigerian schools don't even have standard websites and if you mail them for anything, hardly will you get a response for many years to come unless you know someone who will fast track the process for you. The level of decadence, unprofessionalism and ineptitude is just too appalling and disgusting. That's why Nigeria never grows. Schools are supposed to lead the way to progress, ours seem to be leading the way to retrogression.
While other international schools are making amazing technological and industrial discoveries and advancements, UI, UNILAG and OAU, our biggest schools, are producing pure water and baking bread! There's an urgent need for holistic review and restructuring of our citadels of learning such that at the end of the day, each institution can be more effectively productive, independent and very innovative. I rest my case.
